Volunteer Stories

I traveled to India in 2010 for a short-term two-week mission trip. I did not spend much time there but attending this mission trip gave me a global perspective and opened my eyes to the daily struggles of those living in India. I have personal struggles and difficulties of my own, but who am I to complain? I have food and shelter. Friends and family. And most importantly, it is not humid in California like it is in India.. haha. The food in India is amazing and the hospitality of both Regina and Sudheer is one I will not forget.  - Jim

I served in a mission trip to India in November 2016, helping coordinate and lead a two-day children's day camp, a youth day conference, and a women's day conference. Taking part in this mission trip has been one of the best life changing experiences I've had. Like many places around the world, India is in need of the light and grace of God, but they also are in desperate need of His love and our love. Impact community does an excellent job of combining the two by providing for their community's spiritual needs through service and conferences and teaching the people necessary life skills in order to be able to progress in society.
One of my favorite part was helping lead the children's day camp for two days. Even though language was a barrier, it was beautiful and so effective to just try to speak through love with these children. It was something so simple as smiling, a gesture of touch, a laugh, teaching a song, or attempting and failing at speaking Telegu that built such a strong connection to the children in a short amount of time.
I really appreciate and have very deep respect for Reverend Regina and Reverend Sudheer for all they do for their community and for being amazing hosts while our team was serving there there: before, during, and after. Without their care and attention we would have been completely lost with communication, socially, and spiritually, and they did a great job at connecting us to the community in order to really serve God the way He wanted us to. - Jessie T.

I had the privilege to be with the Impact Community November of 2015, and I can say without a doubt that it was an unforgettable experience. Regina and her husband Sudheer made us feel so welcomed. It was a completely new experience for me because it was my first time out of the country since I had left my home country. The more time spent with the people of Madhira, the more it reminded me of my country and I was able to relate to them in another level. I was especially attached to the youth, and I understood that they had different struggles than me and they responded the same way as me. They chose to block people of and feel indifferent to situations in their life. Through out the time we were with them I could feel God working in their hearts and making a change in their lives, that is a moment engraved in my heart. Our team was only their for a week and a half, but God used our team The Impact India Community to reach out to those who need him. I pray and hope to go back to Madhira to see how God is working! He has big things for Madhira! - Gabriela U.
